UNLIMITED POWER - with Workday® Configuration Change Tracker
I HAVE UNLIMITED POWER!
At least that’s what it felt like the first time I got to use the Configuration Change Tracker in Workday® when they made it available in July of 2024. Even though the customer version of the Configuration Change Tracker doesn’t come with all the implementer capabilities, it’s still a major game changer for anyone who has to manage config in Workday.
Before the Change Tracker became available, if you really cared about quality deployments, you had to take painstaking notes somewhere outside of the system for every single instance you touched while working on some enhancement or breakfix. For me, when fixing a single payroll earning, I might have to notate changes to 30 or more instances at a time. If you add in the fact that multiple configurators might be contributing to a single project, you’ve suddenly given yourself a near 0 chance of deploying your new configurations completely and accurately.
Enter: The Workday Configuration Change Tracker. This nifty report will let you see all the configuration changes made within a specified date range, and also allows for filtering down to the user who made the changes, and the implementation type (think: business object) that is being configured. Workday knows what you changed, and now you have an easy way to get to it. Within 3 clicks you can get all the documentation you need for external ticketing tools, leadership approvals, and internal audit documentation.
All it takes to get access to the tracker is activating and granting security to a single domain. You should consider it.
Do you have the tracker turned on but you’re not sure about the best way to optimize your configuration deployment flow? Do you need an SME to come to the table with the Audit team to draft a control that actually protects your org while allowing for efficient system enhancements? Reach out to us and we’ll be happy to help.
